Our Vision

Anthonians are life-long learners who are able to build self-confidence in learning Mathematics and apply concepts they have learnt in the world around them.

At SAPS, we align our Math teaching very closely with the CREED framework. We adopt the POLYA’s 4-step approach in problem-solving. Anthonians would be taught different heuristics at the various levels and given opportunities to use concrete manipulatives to enhance their conceptual understanding. Teachers also use afL strategies in the Math classroom to identify gaps in pupils’ learning.

Our Physical Facility

LSM Room (St. Damien, 4-03-04)

The LSM Room is mainly used by the Primary 1 & Primary 2 LSM pupils. The set-up of the room facilitates small group teaching so that the weaker pupils would be able to get one-to-one attention in their daily learning.

Our Learning Resources

MOE CPDD Unit Branch provided schools with a wide range of manipulatives to enhance conceptual understanding. This is especially so in the topics of Whole Numbers and Fractions. Math games, in the form of board games or cards, can also be found in the LSM Room.

Our Programmes

Primary 1 & 2

At Primary 1 and 2, Anthonians learn Math mainly through the use of manipulatives. Holistic assessment that we conduct at Primary 1 and 2 include mini reviews, performance tasks, journal writing and diagnostic practices.  Anthonians at the lower primary levels participate in Math trails. This further emphasizes to the pupils that math learning is authentic and can be applied in our daily lives.

Primary 2 Math Learning Trail: Changi Airport

Primary 3 & 4

Other than the similar holistic assessments that we conduct at the lower primary levels, Primary 3 Anthonians will need to prepare for their End-of-year examination (EOY) above the mini reviews conducted. Primary 4, on the other hand, will have their usual assessments across the terms. Here in these two levels, there are more opportunities for pupils to apply what they have learnt daily as well as prepare them adequately for the upper primary levels.

Talent Development Programme
Our Talent Development Programme (TDP) for Math involves Anthonians from Primary 4 to 6. It includes teacher-led e2k sessions and vendor-led Math Olympiad programmes. These programmes will be conducted above curriculum on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, targeting a specific group of Anthonians.

Math Games Day
The Math Games Day is usually conducted towards the end of year as a post-exam activity. Games are prepared for Primary 1 to 4 Anthonians to consolidate their learning for the entire year. Ex-Anthonians render their service to this programme as game masters.

Lesson Study in Math
In our department, we adopt the lesson study approach with the aims of enhancing teachers’ pedagogy and addressing pupils’ misconceptions. The 2-cycle lesson study allows teachers to come together to brainstorm ideas on how to better deliver topics which are conceptually more demanding.
